Regence, along with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans nationwide, is responding by working with physicians, hospitals and medical societies to encourage a consistent, evidence-based approach to care. Through Regence's participation in the national Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program, we are:
Regence members receive lower out-of-pocket costs by receiving
designated services in Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care.
Blue Distinction uses currently established metrics and existing national data, where available, to minimize reporting requirements, allowing physicians and hospital staff to spend more time addressing patients' needs.

The Blue Distinction Centers program examines structures, processes and outcomes of care for specialty care centers. There are currently Blue Distinction Centers for:
A cancer care program is evolving. This program recognizes
specialty centers that meet rigorous quality standards and promote
better outcomes.

The Blue Distinction Provider Performance Measurement and Improvement Program, launched in 2005, encourages consistent quality of patient care. Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans work with network hospitals, using transparent, nationally endorsed measures and publicly available quality-of-care data. The goal is to provide an open, consistent approach to gathering and sharing quality information among hospitals.
