2009 Federal Employee Program (FEP) benefit changes

The following is a summary of Federal Employee Program (FEP) benefit changes effective January 1:

Basic Option Only

  • The copayment for primary care providers increased to $25.
  • The copayment for specialists remains at $30.
  • The emergency room copayment increased to $75.
  • The outpatient facility copayment increased to $50.

Standard Option Only

  • The coinsurance for Preferred providers increased to 15%.
  • The copayment for Preferred providers increased to $20.
  • The inpatient hospital copayment increased to $200 per admission.

Standard and Basic Options

  • The ambulance copayment increased to $100 for ground transportation. The copayment for sea/air transportation increased to $150.
  • Pre-authorization is now required for the following services:
    • Bariatric surgery
    • Outpatient behavioral health services
    • Outpatient surgery to correct congenital anomalies
    • Outpatient surgery to correct accidental injuries to jaws, cheeks, lips, tongue and the roof and floor of mouth
